ASSASSMENT
PERFORMANCE / 03.2016
For me every assessment is like an apocalypse and the previous one felt like an assassination. My gigantic fear of failure sends me straight into complete panic. When I did an assessment at the academy and teachers all just gave complete negative feedback, I realized how that doesn’t stimulate me at all. Since I’m a teacher myself I’m very well aware of the fact that you should always start your feedback with something positive in case you want to share something negative as well, to give some balance and an opening instead of slamming the door in someone’s face.
I wanted to confront the teachers with the strength of their words and had them brought out by an assistant to, standing in line like a firing squad, read aloud their comments from my previous assessment half a year ago, while I was standing blindfolded in front of them on a crate. The reactions of the teachers were intense, some even refused to play their role and walked out. Meanwhile I had invited fellow students behind the gate to audience the spectacle and I’ve given them beer as a thank you, which made them a little more loud.
