DE AARDAPPELETERS
PERFORMANCE / INSTALLATION / 04.2016
At our 3rd year show at Quartair I decided to use the outside shed and work further on a theme I had touched on my first year in art school, namely that of belonging somewhere and the strong feeling of not belonging I had in my tiny hometown. The fact that we ate potatoes every day was in a lot of ways symbolic for that period in my life.
In the shed was a wood stove that I used to warm up the place (it was the middle of winter). On the wooden bench I was peeling potatoes while talking to visitors, one by one, about what it means to belong somewhere. The shed was made into a cosy “home”. Meanwhile the potatoes were boiling and visitors could eat a potato.
