Only in my art I can truly be myself.
In my art I feel the freedom I don’t feel in daily life, to be myself instead of a mirror to my surroundings. Being a clever and sensitive kid, very much in search of acknowledgement I always tried to fit in by copying others. Nevertheless the people I admired the most were and are headstrong people. In my art I can be all that’s within, sensitive, open, direct, vulnerable and headstrong.
My art is very personal, honest, pure and direct, hoping to touch people by exposing myself. In the end we all are people dealing with the same life questions and emotions.
After fleeing my small village at the age of 18 (just graduated high school/ VWO) to South Africa for a year, I was educated as a building engineer/ architect at Delft University of Technology (MSc), a math teacher at the same university (MSc) and last but not least an artist both at Rietveld Academy Amsterdam (first year diploma) and at the Royal Academy of Arts The Hague (BSc Fine Arts in July 2019).
Meanwhile I have travelled the world (56 countries) in different long and short term travels, worked as a math teacher & mentor, worked as a photographer and studied several private art courses as well as courses in philosophy at Leiden University (pre-master).
